A Classic Hacienda Siesta Alegre Wedding

Happy New Year Darlings! I hope everyone had an amazing Holiday Season!

Today we are back with a wedding I hold pretty close to my heart. I met Alaina and Tim a year before their wedding through their photographer. I had previously worked with their photographer Stephan on many occasions and when Alaina reached out to him for her Puerto Rico wedding he immediately put her in contact with me. What transpired was an immediate love affair from the beginning. From the moment I met her and Tim it truly felt like we had been friends for ever, which made planning their wedding that much easier and special.

Alaina and Tim met at a lumberjack-themed party at a bar in Manhattan, that alone should let you know what a fun couple they are.

From the Groom...I walked over to this group of women when one of them grabbed me, pointed to a sparkly ornament on the ceiling and said, "You're tall! Can you get this for me?" I happily pulled it down, and it was promptly snatched from my hand by the woman to my left (Alaina). When I turned to look at her, she reached up, rubbed the glitter into my beard and said, "You look much prettier like this." I was immediately hooked.

With that, their fun filled romance began and when it came time to pop the question, Tim took Alaina to the Arizona Desert for a picturesque proposal. After scouting a few days for the perfect spot, he final decided to find a nice, private spot on the mountain to watch the sunset. The problem was convincing Alaina to go on the hike! After being grumpy at first, she went along with the hike not knowing her life was about to change forever.

From the Groom...The trick was convincing Alaina to climb far enough up the trail and out onto this big boulder once I'd decided that that had to be the spot. It took some serious convincing, but once we finally got up there, I realized getting down on one knee was out of the question as any loss of balance would have sent me tumbling down the cliff (I was nervous enough already). Somehow, seated next to her, I managed to slip the ring out of my pocket without her noticing. Once I had it in my hand, the nerves went away and I sprung the question on her.

After the perfect proposal came time to plan a wedding and decide on a location. They immediately decide that they didn't want a big over the top wedding that would just last one day.  Instead, they wanted to choose a fun location, where their guests could go to for a few days and make a nice vacation out of it. Having been to Puerto Rico a couple of times and loving the people, food, culture and scenery, it was a no brainer.

After a few months of planning they decided Hacienda Siesta Alegre was the perfect spot to say their I Do's! It was a unique space, something their guests had never seen and not your typical beach wedding.

From the Bride...We wanted something very classic but elegant. The hacienda already had a ton of flowers and color, as well as a spectacular view, and we didn't want to overpower that, so we went simple with ivory/white flowers and gold accents plus candles everywhere. It was a star-filled night and the low lighting was dreamy. It felt like you were at the most glamorous rainforest party.

For our food we had one of the best chefs in all of Puerto Rico, and she helped us build a menu full of local flavor and favorites. That pumpkin soup! That plaintain-crusted filet of dorado! My mouth waters thinking about it. I ate every bite on my plate.

One special touch was Ruthie, our wedding planner, found out I loved cotton candy and had a cotton candy machine delivered as a surprise to the reception at dessert! Three flavors, all so delish, I think I ate like five cones of it. Champagne in one hand and cotton candy in the other on the dance floor is how I spent most of my night.

A very special moment was our last dance. Everyone got into one big, hugging, dancing circle and belted "500 miles" together next to Tim and I. I've never been happier.
